Written below is the letter from Alex and Philippe Wheeler sharing their beautiful story to Leo and to the world.

20th July 2008

Dear Melwyn,

A long time has passed since our trip to Nepal, we are hugely grateful for your support.

You will find enclosed in this package is a DVD video which is quite long at 45 minutes, but hopes to grip its audience as it takes you through our journey day by day. It’s arranged chronologically: beginning with the trek to base camp and ending with our visits to the different Child Welfare Scheme centres in Pokhara. We must warn you that the filming can be described as shaky at best in some areas (especially at base camp). The filming in fact stimulates how we were feeling at the time,  it got progressively worse as we climbed and succumbed to altitude sickness. There are also a great deal of photos in the video coming from most members of the expedition.

Although it has been eight months since the trek, we both still remember every second of it - from the exhilarating thrills of being at the foothills of the world’s tallest mountain, to seeing the gleaming smiles of hope from the orphaned children. And for these experiences, we are very grateful to you, as are the children of Nepal. The money raised has already gone a long way to improve their lives, and we in fact received photos last week showing new rooms in the clinic and refurbished bedrooms in the girls’ dormitory. Had these arrived earlier, they would’ve been showcased in our video. One of the females on the trip, our school nurse, has now devoted the following two years of her life in Nepal to help some of these children. She made two return trips bearing pots and pans, clothes, food and other items raised at our school. She is now living in Nepal, working at an orphanage in Kathmandu and has successfully driven a campaign to raise further funds in the UAE.

The experience we all had is indescribable by words, which is why we made this DVD. We hope you enjoy it and we thoroughly recommend the experience to anyone seeking a little adventure, a change in scenery or simply an escape from the madness we live in. Again, we thank you very much for all your support and your patience in waiting for the video.

Thank you,

Yours sincerely,
Alex and Philippe Wheeler
